Frequently Asked Questions

What is the storage life of my mortar?

All of our lime-based mortars can be stored for a maximum period of 6 months, provided the material is stored in sealed packing, in a dry, cool and frost proof place.

Will my brick/stone/mortar retain its breathability after applying Total Wall Care Brick Tint?

Total Wall Care titnts dye the brick/stone/mortar by soaking in to form a permanent, inseparable, vapour permeable bond which allows the brick to breathe, and will not flake or peel like paint.

Can I get next day delivery?

For mainland UK we offer Express Delivery of 1 to 3 working days (working days traditionally being Monday to Friday).

We also offer Same Day Despatch for orders placed and paid for before 10am, Monday to Friday.

Deliveries are conducted by third party carriers. Therefore, whilst we will endeavour for your goods to be delivered in accordance with the stated delivery schedules, these cannot be guaranteed.

Express Delivery orders placed on Saturdays and Sundays will be despatched on Mondays.

How do I protect my brick, stone or pointing repair?

A breathable membrane, preferably  a hessian sheet, should be used to cover and protect the repair from sunlight, wind, cold and rain. In temperatures above 10°C the hessian should sprayed with water so that it doesn’t cure too quickly. In direct sunlight a physical barrier can also be placed in front of the repair to cast shade.

What should I do if there are lumps in the dry mortar?

If you see any lumps in the dry mortar when you open the container, simply break them down using some light pressure before adding water.

Do you complete on site specifications and quotations?

Yes, we complete on site specifications and quotations for above ground problems. We have a network of registered installers or we can complete a repair design for you to install yourselves. Please contact us to discuss costs.

Can I get a custom colour match?

Yes. As a free service, if you send in a sample of the material that you want to colour match, we will look through our range of colours to see if we can get a match.

Simply send a small, solid piece (not just dust) of the material that you want to match, at least the size of a 1p coin, with your full contact details to:

Steadfast Specialist Products, The Yard, Orchard Cottage, Cary Fitzpaine, Somerset, BA22 8JB

Note – Please ensure that you include sufficient postage to cover the cost of delivery. Generally it’s the cost of sending a large letter with the Post Office

Can you provide a colour match from a photo?

Sorry, no we cannot. Something as simple as the brightness of the screen we view it on could mean the wrong shade or colour. If you require us to match the colour then please send in a small sample. A piece the size of a 1p coin should suffice.

How much pointing mortar do I need for my project?

You will require approx. 3kg of mortar per SQM of repointing at 10mm depth in brickwork and 5KG of mortar per SQM in random stonework.

How much water do I need to add to my brick or stone repair mortar?

You allow approx. 1 litre of water with every 7 – 9 kg of dry material. So roughly 1 part water to 7 – 9 parts powder.
